Silent Hill - movie question

In the end... what the fcuk happened? Why are they (wife+daughter/husband) in different "instances"?

I haven't played the games on account of the motion sickness they cause me, but yea... Wife and daughter can't see husband and vice versa? What does it all mean?

Having seen the movie (but not played the game) it would seem that they were in different instances because the woman was dead and her family was not. Didn't you ever wonder why when the husband was in the town looking for her everything appeared normal, but in her "world" everything was hellish?

I figured that the woman had probably died when her car crashed in the beginning of the movie, same thing for the female officer. Since they died in the boundaries of the town their spirits were captive there. Once I realized the woman was basically dead throught the whole time the movie started making more sense.

I believe the wife and daughter died in the car crash. Silent Hill is some form of limbo. When the evil version of the daughter eviscerated the townsfolk, she was basically sending their souls to hell. This is why she couldn't set foot inside the church until it was desecrated. Their souls were in limbo and could be protected by the holy power of the church.

The movie didn't have a point, it just looked really really cool.

what a crappy movie. visually nice, but the plot is horse shyte. MEH.

thx for the input. would still appreciate different takes on it, but it is as i fear.
