I was thinking about picking it up, but for 60 dollars with FC2, Fall Out 3, and Red Alert 3 around the corner it's a tough sale.

"The Silent Hill series is dead ", so are the critics right?

I will probably pick it up eventually. The problem for me is other games coming out too. I want Fallout 3 and then there is the WoW expansion just around the corner.

I talked with a few people who're playing the game and they all seem to be enjoying it--in particular they're impressed with the new combat's system, the creepy music, and the atmosphere(!). Personally I'm a little reluctant of the new combat system's effectiveness since I think the old system (albeit antiquated) added to the tension--perhaps my opinion will change once I spend some time with the game.

I'm looking forward to checking it out next week which is when I should get my hands on a both 360 and PS3 copies. If anyone is interested I can do a quick comparison for those that are conflicted between the two.

Someone just informed me that this game might be compeltely unplayable for some--there is no inverted camera option. How on earth this is, at all, possible is beyond me.

Yes, I heard about this. Thankfully I never got to use to using that option.

I pre-ordered the game..picked it up...went home and thought , wow 65$ for this? (I had not played it, but looked at screenies online).

The girlfriend wanted to play it, but I told her that it was not even two player, so I returned it and put all the money towards Gears of War 2! I already have Fable 2, and Fallout 3 pre-ordered...so now I play the waiting game!

I will probably rent it eventually...

Got my hands on the game. Here is the quick and dirty:

  • * Insane. INSANE! The idea of not implimenting an inverted Y (up/down) axis in a game released in 2008 is so far beyond my comprehension it makes my ears curl! How on earth could anyone in a leadership position, at Konami or Doubl Helix, let this happen? Want to hear something even more confusing? In the options menu you do have the ability to turn on "Inverted Aim" (IE: pulling the left trigger)--but ONLY when you're in aiming-mode, not when you're looking around. So now, if you have inverted aim enabled for aim (which I did at first), you you're brain is going to have to adjust from the two--which is just stupid. Why offer the option in aim-mode, but not throughout the game? WHY?!? How could you not do this? It's obviously already programmed into the game. I know this has been discussed before, in every forum, but this pisses me off so much I just have to vent it out.

    * The game, generally speaking, is great. If you're a Silent Hill fan, then you're going to enjoy this. The mood, atmosphere, puzzle elements, voice acting, and mistique is spot on. So far, in terms of quality, I would say it up there just below SH 1 and 2 (with two being the pinnacle).

    * The transitional effect from the two worlds is just like the movie--awesome.

    * The graphical fidelity is certainly the best the series has ever seen, but it seems to lack the magic of SH2 in this dept. Again, I'm only a few hours into the game so there is still more to see.

    * I miss the siren of impending doom. :(
