It's actually been in development for awhile and it's due out next month.

Considering it's the 5th installment, and The Room which kind of flopped (even though most SH fans still liked it for its story telling), I guess not much hype before its release.

There is a new development team too, so a lot of people are worried that the story wont be as deep.

This is a game I'm really looking forward to. I love the Silent Hill series.

I like it because it has to be one of the most thaught provoking games ever made. Lacking in combat, but it's not suppose to be about combat, but pure mystery and emersion.

That still doesnt excuse bad game design however.

I played SH3 on a PC and loved it. I had never really been a console gamer and I wish I had been able to take part in the first 2 games, and the fourth (I guess I could buy it for the PC). I just feel like I'm missing too much story to try and play the 5th.

Just play the first one. They have completely different stories with each sequel and are not correlated, but they share all the same themes.

People suffering from major mental and emotional trauma that force themselves to see things in a different reality. Dementia of sort. Silent Hill use to be the "gateway" for this dimension, though the creators of the game started experimenting outside the town.

If you really want to, just Google up a plot analysis.
