I am looking for cooler for my new HTPC, using socket 775 (E6750 hopefully). I want something that is more quieter than the retail HSF and possibly keeps the CPU cooler. Since its going in a HTPC case, as smaller low profile one would be good. I am still trying decide on my case (probably hardest thing pick in a HTPC).

I am currently trying to budget it for under $40. Any suggestions?

Some possible options for you:

Thermaltake Blue Orb
Thermaltake Golden Orb (a smaller version of Blue Orb)

Zalman 7700
Zalman 7000 + LGA775 adapter (a smaller version of the 7700)

Check the dimensions on those just to be sure.
The Zalman ones each comes in two versions: a 100% copper one and an aluminum/copper one. I linked only the pure copper ones, but the aluminum ones are a bit cheaper. In my case, I have the all copper Zalman 7000, and it's set to low speed with a fan controller.

The Zalman 8000 series I think are a bit shorter. May want to check those out too.

I got a 7000 in my Ultra MicroFly case, fits good - cools well. I surmise the heatpipe versions in the 8000 series may cool better, though.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I still was having look around. I noticed there are Zalman like the Zalman 8700, are they any better.

Also, noticed a some of Scythe coolers, especially the ninja one (there is smaller ninja mini too). Is that actually any good? Looking though new egg I also the COOLER MASTER RR-LCH-P9E1 with pretty good reviews.

So far the Zalmans are looking good. I see which ones possibly fit my case.
