What's the point of setting your home alarm system to silent?

Most thieves know the response time of the law or security service to an alarm in a given area.

They then bail at the last moment; with what ever they can collect up to that time.

If they do not have a time reference and are complacent; the law may be able to get them.

Let's say you are doing something unusual like moving out of your home or moving in or massive construction, i'd say go ahead an silence it for when it accidentally goes off

What if your house is being invaded by vampire ninja's? I sure as hell would want my alarm screaming.
Maybe you could install some sort of horn or beeper to let you know your silent alarm has been tripped.
