I have a Western Digital 18GB 10,000 RPM hard disk. Anyone have any ideas on how to quiet this thing? I was thinking of getting a drive silencer from quietpc.com, but it is only garunteed if the drive dissipates under 6.8 watts. From the spec sheet of the drive, it says that the drive dissipated 11.01 Watts at idle. How long should I expect the drive to last if I put it in out the quietpc enclosures?

Thanks!

A 10k drive noisy? Well what did you expect!!

The HD will last a while in side a quietener, but you do run the risk of killing it. Personally I don't think I would do it because you could also start getting corrupted data.

Check the WD site and see if they have any noise control SW, many manufacturers are producting SW which will quieten their drives at the expence of performance
