Hi,
do you know how to make a silencer for 120 mm fan ?
I have a Papst fan and AVC one, both 120 mm and hey make quite a lot of noise - mostly air flow.

I am not exactly sure what you mean by a sliencer, but you can run the fans at 7 volts. Provided these fans have 4 pin connectors, which I imagine they do, all you have to do is move the black ground wire from the molex connector of the fan to the farthest point from the yellow wire, where the red wire would normally be. Sorry...cant find a pic right now. Someone will post one if you dont understand.

Ok...this looks like a good tutorial. It makes it look a little more complicated than need be, but it does give you pictures.

maybe you want some foam filter grilles? 7 volt is quieter too, they show a complicated way of doing it at the linked site, but you get the idea i hope, LOL

He may possibly need a rubber gasket, aka O-ring, aka grommet maybe. In which case, I'm looking for a pair of 120mm gaskets also, so someone post!!

I go to Ace Hardware and buy their 8RU up to 14RU rubber washers and put them in between my fan and case. I'm not sure if makes an actual noticable difference with the relatively high noise level of my system, but there is a psychological effect that makes me happier.

haha! i know what you mean. i just spent $8 on a rubber PSU gasket, didn't make any difference, but it makes me feel better.

Well,
running a fan with 7 V is an option if it still have enough airflow. I was thinking about some noise reducing filter (foam, perhaps car air filter...?) without reducing voltage of the fan.

I have a foam filter on one of my 80mm NMB fans. It is just one from SVC. It cuts out far more air flow than sound, but it is a quiet fan already. Maybe the filter will cut out some of the direct noise for you. A few people here have done what you are talking about, but I dont remember who. Hopefully they will post.

I have front and rear Papst 4412FGL ultra-quiet 120mm fans that run fine at 5v and still move a pretty good amount of air.

wire in a rheostat and fine tune it to your needs. I put one on my Panaflo 120mm Fan and i just turn it up as the heat goes up.
