silence for old stuff (dual p3- 600)

I was wondering if anyone can tell me what works for a non- overclocked dual p3-600?

They currently have the retail HSF on them, and I am looking to make this beast as quiet as possible.

(Using for gateway/ Divx/ MP3/ app server.)

These are the katami or cuMine cores ? One's a lot hotter than the other. OEMs were able to slap really large passive HS's on there and rely on ducts (think Dell).

Grab 4 3inch phillips threaded screws and a 92 or 120mm fan. Bolt the fan down to the heatsinks and that's that.

Most likely they are slot one CPUs and Coppermine CPUs. You may want to look at thermaltakes setups for slot one CPUs. Or you can do what Chefjoe said, massive heatsinks + ducts. You may have some trouble with the ducts though b/c there are two CPUs, so two silent HSFs would be better. Anyway, how loud is your computer? I got a retail cuMine 650e and its as quiet as the day I bought it. Well, GL

they are slot 1, and if anyone is interested- running on a intel L440GX+ server board that I scrounged up...
edit: cpu markings: 600/512/100/2.05V S1
COSTA RICA
SL3JM
(CuMine? Not sure myself..)

I haven't actually powered the thing on yet, as the case and the rest of the system are still in 2 different places.

the main reason I am looking for silence is that I have no room to set it up next to my other machines, so I intend to stuff it under the bed. This gets it out of the way in my tiny little 1 BR place.

(I currently am running 2 PC's all the time off of a broadband router- and 2 notebooks jump in on the weekends.)

(Broadband routers suck eggs. If you want to share a connection- use a PC for your gateway.)

If I can suggest an "outside-the-box" solution, pick up a 1GHz Duron, a K7S5A and a $5 GC-68 heatsink, sell the dual 600's and board, and keep the leftover money :D

edit: another option is to find a Globalwin VOS-32, smack a low-rpm 80mm fan onto it, and use just one of the CPU's. It's not like you're going to need two of them to cram data through a teensy little 100Mbit network connection.

they are katmai cpus.. They are worth (relatively) a lot of money on ebay, and they are harder to cool than the newer coppermine cpus..

If I were you, I would sell the mb and cpus and pick up another mb/cpu combo and pocket the money as suggested by mechbgone

Werd, I sold a P3 - 500 MHz slot 1 katami on ebay for like $65 almost a year ago and I thought I would get much less.

what do you think I could expect to get for the MB, CPU's, and 384M (3x 128M ECC) RAM?

If this stuff can be sold for enough, I just might get a different layout. As well as a MUCH smaller case. (I came across an old gateway 2000 full tower case. this thing is HUGE.)
