Hey all, i've been running this pc for a good year or two, been flawless up until yesterday...I was playing some game (I really was 😛) and then the screen was full of artifacts...first time i alt+tabed and tabed back in and it was ok, then 10 min later it did the same but the whole computer seemed froze..yet i could hear the ingame sound/music.

When i tried booting up the comp lots of $$$ signs appeard during the booting up process, even where it says safe mode or start windows normally and blabla...so first i chose to boot it up normally, the loading screen of windows was fine, when i reached the logging screen it was a big artifacts like if i hammered my LCD Monitor. I rebooted again, the first screen you see is my MOBO screen which is gigabyte, its usually completetly white with some lime green colors but now the white had some black dots all over it, and the usual $$$ signs after that screen and then it would just freeze at logging screen and crash.

I opened my case and looked at my video card, it was a bit dusty but nothing wrong with the card itself like there were no burnt contacts or anything, so iput it back in and rebooted my comp..with $$ signs of course, this time i chose safe mode, it booted perfectly, i got in my device manager in "safe mode" and UNINSTALLED my GEforce 8800 GT. My computer restarted and i could still see the dollar signs BUT i can actually get to the loggin screen and get into my windows like i would normally but without my GPU installed (mind you i could still see the $$ when booting up). Now i tried to download new drivers from Nvidia.com but it failed to install..?? i tried to "reinstall" my videocard with the drivers I had and then rollback drivers and i rebooted and it did the same problem...crashed at logging screen..

Right now i'm using my computer but without the GPU installed, I just finished scanning my CPU with SpyBot, and it found 3 things but nothing major, I just deleted them...I do download ISOs/movies but I always read the comments to make sure its not a virus or anything...What do you guys think i should do next?

Buy another video card? Was looking at the Radeon hd 5770
Reformat for windows 7? (I dont have any cd windows with me atm, my friend has the windows 7 cd)

Sorry for my long post and my english ! Thanks in advance

Hmmm you think? Even after "uninstalling" my GPU , during the booting process is still shows all the $$$ signs..

Yes, Windows will load basic VGA drivers but if the card is bad it will still show problems. Actually, if you are seeing $$$ before Windows loads and you're still in the BIOS phase it also points to a bad video card. I suppose you could try reseting the BIOS to default and running memtest but it still looks like the video card.
