signs that your cpu is overheating?

I've never had a cpu fail on me but i'm not too sure on this one i recently built...

what are some visual signs that your cpu is overheating?

other than touching the hsf and its quite hot and the bios temp

btw...does the bios temp have any relationship with the load temps? and how do you find out load and idle temps?

heat instability can cause any variety of errors, gpf's, page faults ect.
look on your motherboard cd for a hardware monitor prog so you can see temps during load
