I’m not even sure this is thread-worthy, but I figured I’d ask the question in my head here. I’ve seen various posts on Reddit and TikTok/YT videos from folks claiming that MAGA/Trump yard signs, bumper stickers and hats have all but disappeared in their neighborhoods. Now I didn’t think this meant anything, all the Harris/Waltz signs and stickers disappeared within 5 days of the election here, so who cares?
“People on both sides” hate our never-ending election cycles and being bombarded with political advertising, so removal of signs shouldn’t be considered removal of support. I’ve always believed that Trump/MAGA support always flew under the radar—for every LOUD AND PROUD MAGA supporter there were probably at least 5-7 more who didn’t care for rallies, still have liberal friends and never wear their politics on their sleeve, but were just as likely to vote Trump in 2024 and will vote a MAGA ticket in 2028. That’s why polling always underrated Trump’s support.
But I’ve also read that some of these disappearing signs have been there since 2016 or 2020, and weren’t just for the most recent election. Others are insisting that MAGA folks are “fearing for their safety” if the economy falters under Trump and don’t want to be singled out for “leftist violence.” But I don’t buy that for a second—they own more guns than anyone else and supposedly they’re the majority, so what do they have to fear?
Whaddya think—do you see fewer visual signs of outward MAGA support? If so, does it really mean anything or are folks just trying to support MAGA “under the radar”?
