Egypt Battles Desert Locust Swarms from Libya
CAIRO (Reuters) - Egypt has killed swarms of a type of locust that has infested parts of Africa and Cyprus this year, the official Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported on Monday.

An Agriculture Ministry official said some of the swarms of desert locusts, which entered Egypt's northwest coastal area last week from Libya, had been killed without damaging crops, MENA reported.

The locusts were easily destroyed because they were not yet fully grown, the official said.

Egypt had formed squads to deal with the locusts as soon as they were spotted on the border with Libya, the official said.

Desert locusts have ravaged the countryside in countries including Mauritania, Mali and Niger this year. Swarms of the large, pink locusts have also recently arrived in Cyprus. It is thought they were carried on winds from North Africa.

I'm no student of religion (well, not since I escaped from the nuns), but I'm pretty sure that the Apocalypse calls for a false messiah - i.e. the Antichrist is not just antithetical to the Christ, but actually mistaken by many (doomed) followers to *be* the Christ.

Locust swarms are actually pretty common. I saw on tv once a plane flying through a locust swarm. It was non-stop "splat splat".

The Apocalypse will not occur until seven years after the antichrist has assumed power over the whole world; he will rule from a rebuilt temple in Jerusalem and declare himself to be God. This view seems to be most consistent the with biblical text. This occurs after the Church has been removed from the earth by God, so Christians today would be sinfully wasting their time by trying to hasten the coming of the apocalypse.
