Signs of an overheated processor?

Hi. I'm wondering what an overheated CPU would look like. My machine freezes up after about 10 minutes. The screen stays on, and everything in the case keeps running, but it won't respond to any input. Does it sound like my chip might be the culprit?

I'm running an Athlon 1.2 Ghz on an Epox 8k7a+ mobo. I've got a Thermaltake Volcano2 heatsink on the chip. I'm not overclocking anything. I've troubleshooted everything else I can think of, so I'm now thinking that the problem is either with the processor or the motherboard.

I posted a thread here in the motherboards category with more detailed information, if that helps.

Thanks for any tips!
