I really dont know about this one.

I think i have a bad processor here. I have swithced out everything and just placed the processor into a new motherboard and am getting the same system crash error. All I can think of is that it is the processor? I did not think that I could install windows, etc..with a bad processor, but I have no other idea what to think. I have switched memory, psu, graphics card, and now mb..the only thing that is the same is the cpu.

I started with a soyo p4s ultra. Install went okay, then started getting RANDOM system crashes. The event ID log states that it is 1003 code 102. Not much info on that one.

I replaced the memory, the video card, disabled sound..etc. Tried with a different PSU, an Antec smart 350 (had a smart 300 in there)
vid cards are geforce 2 ultra, then a geforce 3 ti500, both work great in other machines. Memory was extreme ddr then crucial,-both work great in other machines. Hard drive is one maxtor, and one western digital. I tried everthing except a new mb.

I got an ITMax2V2.0..I got a couple of BSOD during the install. Swapped the memory...installed fine, then updated from windows update..all fine...then installed intel chipset drivers. Okay..for a little while...then the horrible system reboot. Then more and more lockups.

the error is event id 1003 (the same in both motherboards) code 102 and the first code is 0000009c.

Could the PSU still not be strong enough?

PLEASE HELP!

thanks so much

I would bet on the CPU. I've had several Athlon XP cips do the same thing. Turns out it was a heat issue and I RMA'd them. Remember summer is here and with that comes the increased ambient room temp.

So what's your question? You've eliminated all possibilities except the CPU... I think you solved your own problem.

I would go for the processor. It's either caused by a physical damage to the core (I'm assuming it's AMD) or a heat issue.

Check that there are no visible damage on the core (still assuming it's AMD).

It's not the PSU, that's for sure. 350W is good enough and if it would be the case of the PSU, it would more likely freeze suddenly than just BSOD.

Signs of a bad CPU:
1) Fixed crashes (ie when crashes on one particular program(s))
2) Random crashes
3) PC Trippin' (like random restarts, opening of the programs. etc)

The character of your errors sounds like the cpu had suffered thermal damge. Exchange it if u can.

P.S 150 watt PSU will suffice if you have: 1 Optical drive, 1 HDD, 1-2 Pci cards, 1 agp card (not radeon 9500+). 350 is HELLA. People ALWAYS think its the PSU...if the PC's were so simple...

bad cpu, i struggled for months trying to figure out the same issue, it was the CPU in the end..

you did diagnostics on most items and it seems like the only thing left is the cpu.

I've had much the same type of problems, all due to a bad powersupply. It should be simple enough to try a different and/or more powerful one.

don't be too critical. it never hurts to verify with others and get a second opinion. :)

imo, it's the proc that looks flaky
try doing prime95 to see whether it auto restarts or crashes
