Many directors are in their own movies or have personal references put in. That's a common practice in the industry.

I was a little dissapointed at how it ended. I wanted to see tons of citizens arming themselves with waterguns or something. I also wanted to see the scene in the book where their house was being lit up by an alien ship...that woulda been kinda badass. The other thing was the aliens were defeated by some primitive methods in the middle east? Suicide bombers? They decided to do a 1 for 1 ratio...I just imagined a bunch of suicide bombers runnin 1 by 1 into aliens. FOR ALLAH...a bunch of middle eastern dudes goin you can't match our suicide bombers...100 aliens get taken out by 100 suicide bombers heh...the aliens realize they can't win because "if they're willing to sacrifice their whole population 1 by 1, we can't be sacrificing all of us..they probably out number us anyway" haha

This was one of the most boring and crappy movies I have EVER seen.

1. This was slooooow. I could have build a computer during the movie and still no miss a thing!

2. Alien invasion was bure BS. There are intelligent beings, but they come to a planet thats 70% water with no protection against it?!!! When the US attacks Iraq, is it going to send in 250 000 naked guys with long nails, or is it going to give them clothes and guns?
Fscking retarted!

3. Fate....what a bunch of crap. nuff said.

...did anyone notice, before gibson's character turned off the TV, that they were saying the aliens were defeated by three cities/parts of the middle east (if i recall/heard)-

The TV said that places in the middle east found a primitive way to fight off the aliens, but the news people didn't know what it was. They were alluding to the "primitive" people without technology using water to kill the aliens. Maybe they were trying to prove the point about not depending on technology and stuff, but instead depending on the simple things?

Also, the daughter was clarvoyent(I kant spell), or physcic or whatever, and she probably inherited it from her mother. When the motel said "see, swing" as her last words, she was probably seeing the future. When the daughter was saying to her brother, "I don't want you to die", she probably saw him in the aliens arms swinging back and forth.

I think all the couincedences were in support of the bringing Mel Gibsons character back into faith. It's exactly the point that he was explaining to his brother on the couch, about there being two types of people. So basically Mel was saying that God caused his wifes death so the family could surive, he made Mel's kid have asthma so he could survive, and the daughter to have a weird water fetish so the family could survive as well. There are other things as well, such as God might have made Mel's brother a strikeout king so he would be at home when the aliens invaded, and he could help save Mel's family.

Some of you folks need to lighten up and enjoy the movie for what it is, a work of fiction that is supposed to be entertaining. He wasn't trying to rewrite physics laws or something. Geeze.

i didn't catch on to that part, but agree that ppl should enjoy it for the movie it is. We all know M. Night can make profound, exciting, innovative movies. He has already established that fact. Now he is having some fun with this movie. I thought it was entertaining and that was enough for me. Some of you guys are really too critical. Unbreakable deserved some thrashing, IMO, but this movie was really good. For his age it makes it even more amazing he can churn out this stuff.

once again, i get a lot of us didn't 'get' it. and why script writers always do this? Most horror movies make us shout at the screen and say stuff like "you idiot don't go in there," or "pick up the damn gun", etc..

think you guys should see it again.
