...did anyone notice, before gibson's character turned off the TV, that they were saying the aliens were defeated by three cities/parts of the middle east (if i recall/heard)-
The TV said that places in the middle east found a primitive way to fight off the aliens, but the news people didn't know what it was. They were alluding to the "primitive" people without technology using water to kill the aliens. Maybe they were trying to prove the point about not depending on technology and stuff, but instead depending on the simple things?
Also, the daughter was clarvoyent(I kant spell), or physcic or whatever, and she probably inherited it from her mother. When the motel said "see, swing" as her last words, she was probably seeing the future. When the daughter was saying to her brother, "I don't want you to die", she probably saw him in the aliens arms swinging back and forth.
I think all the couincedences were in support of the bringing Mel Gibsons character back into faith. It's exactly the point that he was explaining to his brother on the couch, about there being two types of people. So basically Mel was saying that God caused his wifes death so the family could surive, he made Mel's kid have asthma so he could survive, and the daughter to have a weird water fetish so the family could survive as well. There are other things as well, such as God might have made Mel's brother a strikeout king so he would be at home when the aliens invaded, and he could help save Mel's family.
Some of you folks need to lighten up and enjoy the movie for what it is, a work of fiction that is supposed to be entertaining. He wasn't trying to rewrite physics laws or something. Geeze.
