So how do you people deal with it when your SO's parents are in town for a prolonged period of time? They got in last week for her graduation this past weekend. And I'm not sure how long they are staying. Everything's cool with them. I mean I've been going out with her for almost 3 years. They've met me several times. Her parents and mine live out in Taiwan. That's why it's only been several. But sometimes I still feel uncomfortable around them you know? And how does that no become uncomfortable after marriage?

But wanted to know how people here deal with it and what it was like the first time you met them.

Hope to get some interesting stories.

I guess it varies from situation to situation. I got along with my old boyfriend's family wonderfully... I think I spent as many holidays with them as I did with my own family. Things are usually awkward at first (unless your SO has VERY cool parents), but you'll warm up to each other. As for marriage... you should really be comfortable with your SO's folks before you even consider engagement. Life is just easier that way.

Good luck!

Snakes in the cage. No need to remind me!:Q;)

But yeah. I guess you guys are right. Hope it doesn't get worse though. Don't plan on marrying that soon. Maybe another few years. I guess that'll give me enough time.

I guess i'm one of the people that got lucky. My gf has the nicest parents one could ask for. Naturally the FIRST time i met them i was REALLY scared. Her dad was in the airforce so i thought he was going to be a pretty strict kinda dad, but he was the exact opposite. Weird thing was i kept calling him Sir and then the second time i met him he said if i called him sir one more time... He was going to, and i quote... "FvCKING KICK MY ASS AND MAKE SURE I NEVER DATE HIS DAUGHTER AGAIN!" That sorta relaxed me and its been going smoothly ever since.

It's only uncomfortable when you really like the girl. I know it was for me. You want their parents to like you SOOO much. Just be yourself, though.
