Signed up for 21 credits for next semester

4 of them are 1-unit colloquium courses, and 1 is a 3-unit natural science blowoff course. The other 14 units are spread out over 5 courses that I actually need to take. I wanted to boost my GPA (3.48) when I signed up for them.

Should I really be in college if I do something crazy like this?

Sounds crazy. Signing up for more classes presents you with more opportunities for lowering your GPA. Boosting your GPA requires studying, or in this case, studying more than ever.

Doesn't sound crazy. Seem like all the classes are low unit courses which indicates that they're fairly easy or lecture only. Unless they take up a fair amount of your time, it doesn't seem that bad.

Colloquium courses are the easiest courses imaginable. They have no tests, labs, etc. Most don't have regular homework assignments. I might have to write 1 or 2 short papers. Perfect attendance = A

The 14 credits of real courses is what's going to kill me. Quantum 2, Theoretical E&M 2, Upper division Physics lab. I'm a dead man

But it makes me wonder if it's such a great idea if all it presents is a GPA boost. Colloquiums are waste-of-time lecture-only courses. Is a tiny boost in GPA worth the 4 hours a week? Hmmm

I attempted this before..but with 18 credits of "real courses" all which were senior lvl or above and in my major, in addition to 1 blow-off course. I managed to come out of that semester with all A's and 1 B, however it took a extreme amount of effort and luck, and it is something that I do not advise. Be ready to sacrifice your life this semester.

imo, too many but you may be extremely smart and can manage your time extremely well, don't know. i think the harder class may suffer, and therefore lower your gpa a bit. also, what if you get sick in the semester? you are f(cked then...

and finns14 - some colleges/universities have a $$$ cap after 12hrs or so, so if you take 12 or 21 you pay the same tuition, just the extra lab fees and such.

i did that before for one semester... the only semester that i ever made the president's list. i also didn't have a gf at the time. my grades went downhill after that when i met my future wife.

Depends where you go. Many colleges classify you as a full time student after 12 undergrad or 9 grad, and pay a flat fee regardless of the amount beyond that. I know a lot of cash strapped students who overloaded simply to graduate faster so they incurred less expenses.

My usual courseload in college was 20 credits and my peak quarter I took 24. I graduated with a 3.77. 4-5 classes is totally doable, if you're not goofing off. My husband topped out at 36. That may be a little in the crazy range.

i dont know what to say cause my school didnt do Credit Hours, 1 course = 1 credit, took 4 a semester, if you wanted to take 5 you had to apply specially for that

This won't cost me anything extra, my university charges flat tuition after 12 credits. And I have a tuition waiver (woot).

But do you people really think this is going to pwn my GPA? The colloquium courses don't require hardly any extra work. I have to go to a class 1 day per week and might have to write 1 paper. This is not such a great feat.
