Signature Length Increase

While I don't think that the signature should be used for someone's PhD dissertation, but what about the possibility of exclusing the html link text from that limit? Some URLs are just really long. It's hard to even link to more than a single thread on this forum with the current character limit. I'd like to provide a link to quotes from this fourm, but I can't include both the quote text and the relevant link.

How about just excluding everything between the [L] [/L] tags from the count?

Just a suggestion.

We also need to limit the number of LINES in a sig. I mean come on, CKGunslinger your sig is like 6 lines. I gotta scroll just to get to the next post!!!

😉

It's a serious suggestion. Long signatures (over 4 lines) are just rude.

i agree, people posting poems and songs that were 5 times longer than some nef of a post got damn aggravating.

First, the text of the link should count, but the code for the link and the URL within that code should not count toward the limit. It's very frustrating.

Second, sigs should be limited to about 4 lines (no less, but maybe a bit more if you want to be lenient). Nothing that's worth saying in a sig takes more than 4 lines of words to state, and I think all the extra scrolling sucks. It's very frustrating.

Bah.. get a bigger monitor and increase your resolution. My new, bigger sig is only 4 lines on my 21" CRT @ 1920x1440. 😛

Yeah, that's actually what I meant.

*buys you a bigger monitor* 😉

LOL, I've got a 19" CRT right now at 1280x960 (only does 16x12 at 75Hz - headache city), but that Dell 24" widescreen LCD has caught my eye (and maybe my pocketbook later this year)... 😛

It's still rude. If you want to provide me with a few new monitors, feel free. I have 4 LCDs @ 1280x1024 at work, and some crappy 17" CRTs at home. PM me for an address to send the 6 screens to.

Agreed.

? Liberals - Arrogant? Elitist? Never!

--> Steeplerot - "Suburbs have and will always have what they call brain-drain, usually the brightest and most creative sorts move away to come to the city, leaving the "normies" back home."

--> aidanjm - "In 2005, Left/ Liberal minded folks simply do not attack people physically... Those kinds of hateful activities are fundamentally conservative projects"

For example, this crap is already annoying and overly formatted as it is.

It's long, but it's also an accurrate description of those two. 😛

I'm going to be honest with you guys:

The scrollywheel manufacturing lobby is actually paying me for my absurdly long sig.

Holly crap Ross, you're past 50k now!! :Q

BTW, thanks. I never think of checking those and didn't realize I can change my color scheme as well as many other things.

I agree with n0c, overly long sigs are annoying and rude.
It's bad enough in emails where peoeple will send a mail with a few lines of actual mail, and then a useless sig with "John Doe, Blah blah manager, this and this company, blah blah bull$hit, disclaimer, if you show this mail to anyone, we'll sue you, blah blah blah more bull$hit"
In forums it gets even more annoying.

Sigs like Jzero for example would damn near be a bannable offense if I was the admin, of course, there are probably lots of people who would ban me too for various reasons 😱

But I agree about the links in sigs, the number of characters displayed should be what counts.

Thanks RossMAN for the heads up. I changed my preferences and now I don't have all that propaganda to deal with😉

For me, my sig allows others to see my sysem specs just in case I have a technical question about my rig - no need to spread a message others don't want to read about.

If the rules change, I'll comply. Until then, Flava Flav is going to stay and help me fight the power...at least until Schizoid once again chides me that I need a new sig.

When we've got people displaying as many as 500 posts per page, my cold heart just doesn't bleed for the people who are *so* bothered about having to scroll through an extra 10 lines.
