Signal Strength...Link Quality...

I have a Linksys wireless router and a D-Link wireless card (both 802.11b). I have recently been having problems with my network such that the link quality will go down to close to 0% and will cut off my file transfers. Very annoying. My signal strength, however, is excellent and hovers around 80%. The link quality fluctuates all the time and its causing me to go insane. What is wrong? Should I upgrade to 802.11g to fix this?

Thanks for any help.

Could be interference from another source broadcasting in the 2.4GHz range. You have any 2.4GHz phones in the house? Those are notorious for knocking out WiFi connections, especially the spread spectrum ones that broadcast on multiple 2.4GHz channels at the same time. Microwave ovens also put out 2.4GHz signals and can interfere as well. Since your signal strength is decent, I'd wager that something is causing interference. Have you tried changing channels on your router?

If you are indeed suffering from interference, going up to G might not help since it is still working at 2.4GHz. Changing out your phone for a new 5.8 set might work, though, if you have a 2.4Ghz that is mucking up the router.
