Please post in this thread if you want to be included in the next Seventeen or Bust race.

For the main race those with high daily production will be required to reach higher goals than those with smaller herds. A two day qualifying race will be held to provide data to calculate these goals.

The qualifying race is tentatively scheduled to begin 8am Eastern Time on January 28th.

It seems like we could have kewl name for this race, but I sure haven't come up with it yet.

Just thought to ask.

You can run in both races at the same time. A little hard to reach the pedals at times, I know, but you can do it. :p

Bump to make sure everyone that wants in - gets in.

I still think we should have catchy name for this race, but I'm still drawing a blank. The best I've come up with is STAIR (SB Team AnandTech Incentive Race). Surely there must be a better name.

Lineup so far:
Confused
Statzman
Baldy18
Winr
SinfulWeeper
Kanatna
Chipster22
RemyCanad
EvilWobbles
StormGiant
Actaeon
SeanD
LyNx01
sduguid

Preferred signup is before the qualifying race starts at 8am Eastern, January 28th, but entries will still be accepted up until the main race start at 8am, January 30th [Edit - if active at the start of qualifying.]

There are many honors up for grabs including:

  • Main Race Winner - given to the person who first reaches their goal calculated from the qualifying race (This is the BIG prize.:D)
2nd place for the main race
    3rd place
    4th place
    5th place

Main Race Top Producer - given to the person who completes the most work during the main race without reguard for individual goals (No handicaps). For purposes of this prize the main race will be considered finished when 5th place listed above has been decided.

Qualifying Race winner - given to the person producing the most during the two day qualifying race

Additional rules and notes:

I will try to update the race standings once a day around 8am, but reserve the right to vary the time of the update.

There are times when two or more competators may reach their goals on the same day. In these cases finishing positions will be determined as follows. A.) By who has first posted a message in the DC forums announcing they have reached their goal, or B.) If no messages are posted, based on who has the most work completed at the next update.

Any:
Comments? Questions? Complaints?

Ok so I'll only be running SOB on three of my pc's. If I get anxious towards the middle of the race and the desire to win makes me go crazy and start up SOB on some of my other pc's for the sole purpose of personal glorification, do I get punished.:D

No, you would not be punished. The idea is to have fun with the race and encourage more production so adding machines during the race would be encouraged. Hopefully others will also get fired up and also increase their output.

The counterpoint to that would be that sandbagging during the qualifying race is discouraged.

Oh well, I'm going to talk to my computer lab teacher today. I believe if all goes well, I could convert anywhere from 20-30 400mhz (i think) Celerons, and 20-30 600mhz (i think) Pentium 3's. So if my production in this race, suddenly jumps, you know why :)

EDIT: I mean tomorrow :)

That is great. :) But I know have worked for a schools tech department for over a year so I wouldn't get my hopes up. It usually comes down to the super and depending on your super who knows what will happen. I could probably get over 300 iMacs running a client over the summer but there is no Mac OS 9 client so... But thats just becuase I know the super and anyone else I would have to get permission from....

Then again everything could go great and you would be one of the top producers. But I sure can hope. :)

I talked to my teacher earlier in the Year about Running SETI@Home on the computers. He gave the okay, but unfortunatly there was no possible way I could have installed them on all the computers in a public lab without settings being tampered with. If this was a workplace, I wouldn't think anyone would bother with them, but its school, and kids are kids.

The teacher is an extremely nice guy. I think he'll let me install it, as long as it doesn't interfere with the computers. I just wish there was a way I could install it, keep it running hidden, without anybody messing with any settings.

Do we keep running SOB straight through to the race and the score is taken according to the time and date?
Thanks.

:)
