Sold an item on ebay. Buyer has a problem with how it was packaged. Wants full refund. He asked me over a message. I'm offering 10% refund for his trouble or he can go through resolution center to get a refund so I have a chance of getting my final value fee back.

I'm pretty much over a barrel here right?

What chances do I have of keeping the sale final?

What has packaging have to do with anything? was the product damaged? or a gift wrap? never heard that one before, I don't think he has a case...

He gave no indication that the product was damaged, just described the packaging be inadequate. Threatening negative feedback.

This is why I offered 10% refund or just go to resolution center. If it goes to resolution center I'll point to the message where he describes packaging but says nothing of the product.

Let him leave negative feedback. Why even give him 10% off, ask him to prove that product was damaged otherwise fuck off

Sadly, he is going to open a claim, say the packaging damaged the product, eBay will agree, he will then ship you back an empty box, upon receipt of said empty box eBay will remove the funds from your PayPal account and give them to the buyer. You will not get the item back nor will you get the money. Welcome to eBay!

Yep!

That is pretty much what happened the last time I sold on Ebay. Except I didn't even get the empty box.

Well I did about 15 favorable sales transactions through ebay and probably 5 successful purchases. If that ends up happening it'll be the last time I sell or buy.

The guy has 700+ feedback 100% and runs an industrial company reselling electronics, sensors, motors, etc. Fingers crossed this goes okay.

what exactly did you sell?

Could possibly be his kid or something. Or there is a very slim, very very very tiny chance he could have a point.

If it were me I would tell him to kick rocks but I hate all Ebay buyers.

Ask the buyer if the item arrived damaged, because if UPS / FedEX broke the item, then a claim can be made to them. Otherwise, it seems like like they are trying to scam.

Meh, I have been having issues on Amazon used sales lately. Thus far, nothing that ended completely poorly... but,

1) Guy buys phone. Guy finds out phone doesn't work on his network. Phone model was exclusive to Verizon, and the reviews all stated such. Guy wants a refund. Amazon suggests teh proper way to deal with it is to offer a full refund and that it is the cost of doing online business. After some back and forth, the guy is going to sell the phone to recoup his loss... nope, wants a refund... nope, it sold. Nvm.

2) Guy orders my used tablet, the following morning, as I am finishing up the packaging and about ready to pay for and print the label, I see an email pop up that he wants to cancel the order because he that it was the new version of the tablet. I just missed running into the same issue i did with #1. Tablet sold next day, so not a huge deal.

Long story short, there are a good number people that buy things that are idiots. For whatever reason, the sites the offer to allow you to make these transactions tend to suggest that you the seller bend over for the buyer. I do think Amazon isn't as bad as ebay, but I have only sold a few things thus far and only 1 of them went completely without issue.

Vibration monitoring sensors. They are small but heavy, they have a small crystal inside designed to pick up vibrations, they feel extremely sturdy and are in a hardened steel case.

The packaging when I had it felt fine, but his description of the box made it sound like USPS damaged the box.

He's unable to test if they are damaged or not. You would theoretically need a seismic shake table bench to actually verify if they are working, hence why they are somewhat difficult to resell.

If I do get them back on a refund I have other outlets I can get rid of these though.

Which is why I would ask about the item itself. If it works as intended, simply explain you won't go with USPS again and apologize for the issue. If the item was damage, you should refund him and open a claim with USPS (and I sure hope you insured the package).

I think he is just being cautious, as he can't verify the item wasn't damaged during shipping right away. I'd not be a dick and refund them then file a claim with USPS anyway. I'd ask him to document as best as he can the damaged package.

aahhh...so he might have a legit concern. Does he have a way to test them?

These situations just suck.

This is why I will never ever sell on Ebay again, rather deal with craigslist or donate the item to charity. Ebay and paypal polices are designed to screw the seller.

CTC? IMI? CTC has a lifetime warranty, if they are damaged make him return them and file a shipping claim. You did insure it right?

That means crap the moment ebay let people pay to remove negative feedback.
