The head IS guy has a Dell with a built-in NIC that he's had trouble with the NIC ceasing to function periodically for no apparent reason. So, they were going to buy him a new system. They happened to discuss this today in a meeting while I was there. I suggested that maybe they could just disable the on-board NIC and try a regular PCI NIC. They were astonished at what a good idea that was and wondered why they hadn't thought of that.... *sigh*

What does he have? 1GHz is pretty good as far as corporate workstations go...my Dad's got a 233 MHz Pentium II...with NT4 SP3.

*sigh* as I sit and type on my work PC, a SCREAMING (as in extremely loud fans) P3-550 with 64MB of original memory (upgraded to 330MB by me) and built in video. They expected me to do Java development work on it with only 64MB of RAM...while the managers and tech support people get 1Ghz+ machines to surf the web with.

What does he have? 1GHz is pretty good as far as corporate workstations go...my Dad's got a 233 MHz Pentium II...with NT4 SP3.

Not sure what it is, but it's and Optiplex 240. Probably between 1.5-2.0 GHz. His new lappy will probably be faster than my desktop...

I have one of those at work. Optiplex GX240 1.6ghz w/ 512mb of ram and a 19" LCD.

Yeah optiplexes are good stuff...I've got one here in the dorm room at school and it's almost silent. Plus, the black case/flatpanel monitor matches my Z560s . If only there was a way to paint my laser printer black...:Q.
