**Sigh** Rules are rules, but it's just a bit disappointing. 14 years on eBay, 11 years as a seller, been a PowerSeller for as long as I can remember.

Was checking one of my listings today and noticed that on the Product Search page for the item that I listed, that I wasn't at the top of the page as having the best deal from a Top-Rated Seller (even though I had the lowest rating for a Top-Rated seller).

No phone call from my "supposed eBay rep", no email, no notifications or anything after years of dutiful service.

I was still stumped as to why I had been dumped. I have a feedback rating of 3,550, 100% feedback (I've had one negative feedback in 14 years from one idiot buyer).

powerseller.jpg

For the past year:

Item as described: 5.00 out of 5
Communication: 4.98 out of 5
Shipping time: 4.98 out of 5
Shipping and handling charges: 4.96 out of 5

Sales: $12,091.16 (must have $3,000 in sales over the past year)

And what killed my Power Seller status,

Number of transactions: 79 (must have 100 transactions over the past year)

Sigh. I understand why they do it (someone could sell one item for $3,000 and claim Power Seller status for the year), but you'd think they'd have another way of gauging performance.

I'm gonna miss the preferential search rankings and 20% discount on final value fees (that's the biggie).

Oh well, rant mode off :(

Have any of you other PowerSellers gotten the boot?

Go to My eBay and look on the left column: Seller Dashboard.

But yeah, I guess I'll have to resort to hawking a bunch of cheap shit to keep my 20% discount. I guess that's the price you pay for automated hard limits.

A human could look at $3,000 and 100 transactions versus $12,000 and 79 transactions and make the right decision every time... but it is what it is :)

my dashboard is significantly less detailed than yours, but at least I'm good for my powerseller level. I do need to make some changes keep top rated seller discounts though...

What do you sell on ebay?

Mostly brand new clearance electronics that I get cheap by browsing Slickdeals (printers, cameras, tablets, etc). Staples is hotbed for cheap clearance items, and it's quite profitable to flip it.

For example, I recently bought five Kindle DX (3G version) from Staples for around $129 each. Turned around and sold them on eBay for $270 each. Considering that I have six Staples within a 20-mile radius, it's like shooting fish in a barrel most of the time :)

I wonder if that's still worth your time, research, driving, selling, shipping, ebay fees if you make 'avg' techie salary ($80k~ yr).

I've been doing this so long that the research/shipping/listing/etc is down to a science. It takes me roughly two minutes to print a label, box up a product and have it ready to ship out (and I can schedule USPS to pickup from my front door next day at no charge; I can drop off UPS packages at Staples). The local deals are close by, but 90% of the deals I score are shipped right to my door.

It's relative little effort, so why not?

And part of it is just fun to me... I enjoy it as a side hobby that interests me.

I don't sell anything, but I browse SD every day. Staples has an inventory checker IIRC, so it doesn't take a lot of effort to research. I'd assume being a power seller for years, the selling, shipping, etc. doesn't take up much of his time either.

First of all, I am impressed. I am just surprised that as an adult, you can allocate this much time to it. I am pretty good at eBay too (not as fast as you I am sure, but still), and unless I am making considerable profit, it's simply not worth it to me. I guess you treat it as a second job though.

Can't you call them and have an actual person review it? Maybe they can override that based on your history.

As I said, I don't allocate much time at all. I only "seek" local deals if I'm going to be in the area so I don't waste gas/time.

However, having a Staples less than two miles from my home helps. Just a few minutes browsing SD a day (for high rated threads) is all I need.

I called them when I noticed what happened and the CSR basically told me, "Sorry, the system flagged your account, and have a nice day"

Demand to speak to a manager. Do this until you're talking to the president of the company. Then ask if his refrigerator is running, giggle like an imbecile and hang up. Everyone wins.

Judging his yearly sales volume ($12k), it's more like a hobby than a serious source of income.

His sales would need to be closer to $100k/year to approach serious part-time income territory. Full-time eBayers have sales double or triple that at minimum.
