So I went to browse cars at my local ford dealership today. I was looking at Ford Rangers, and I had just about made up my mind to get one. Then I made the mistake of checking out the 2005 Mustang.
OOPS! Now I want one those. Dammit. I can afford whatever I want. I feel confident that I can get a good deal on the Mustang, but there is a $3000 rebate on the Ranger.

Now I am stuck. What to get?

Oh, and when I do decide on what I want, what is a fair price for this car?

I have done my research. I have the invoice price, invoice price with options($19,595), and the dealer hold back is about $700. What else will I need to negotiate an good price for car?

why would you go from a truck to a sports car? what do you actually need the vehicle for? I wouldn't get the V6 coupe myself, that's the welfarey-ist mustang they make.

A V-6 Mustang is an insult to your manhood. Either Pony Up, (pun intended) and get a sports car (V-8), or get the Ranger. At least you can haul stuff in the Ranger. You can't haul anything in a V-6 Mustang. You can haul @ss in a V-8 Mustang GT.

If I were to buy a Stang, it would have to be a GT, and a standard. Anything less is just blasphemous :)

And besides, Rangers last forever.

One of the car rags tested an 05 V6 auto mustang and performance wise it's a huge step up now. They got like 15.3 or something, which is pretty respectable. They said it's only a couple tenths off from the old V8 auto.

Assuming this is no fluke of course. As much as I'd like to point and laugh at how slow and sorry V6 mustangs are, it may not be the case anymore.

Maybe, but I am losing the Suburban I am currenly driving in a divorce. Nothing I can buy would replace that. I really don't have any need for a V8. I just like the way the car looks (this would be me BRIEFLY departing from my form follows function stance)

Weren't the last revision of V6 mustangs running mid to low 15s as well?

AFAIK not consistently, especially the automatics which were slow as f*ck.

If only I knew how to drive a standard:(

Borrow a friend's car and learn. :)

Owning a muscle car with an auto transmission means you're either stupid or a chick.

well, like I said already, the new automatic V6s are much better. The auto is 5 speed now instead of 4.

Divorce, huh? Sorry. But this means you must have a 2005 'vette Z06. With a 6 speed manual tranny. Money be damned.

The divorce might make the Ranger a better idea. If things go really bad, you could put a topper on it and use it for a house if need be.

What is the different between the Ford Ranger & F-150, other than engine/price?

What is the best bang for the buck between Ford, Dodge, Chevrolet @ 6 & 8 bangers?
And, What is the best bang for buck between Trinton, Cummin, and Duramax?

Buy what you want, based on your needs and desires.

The only way you can be a pussy is if you choose a drivetrain based on what some anonymous Pinto driving, keyboard commando acne victim thinks you should choose.

Ranger is mid-sized, F-series are full-sized trucks. That's all I can help ya with :)

The Ranger is a subcompact truck. Biggest engine is a v-6. The F-150 is built on an entirely different frame, bigger engines, built to haul more cargo, bigger available bed lengths.

Never get a 6 cylinder engine in a full size pickup. Not enough power, and horrible resale value.

The Triton is a Ford gasoline engine, the Cummins and Duramax are diesels. The Powerstroke is the Ford diesel.

Full size trucks, in my opinion:
Ford: Best built, 2nd best diesel engine, 2nd best automatic transmission.
Dodge: Worse built, best diesel engine, 3rd worst automatic transmission.
Chevy: 2nd best built, 3rd best diesel engine, best automatic transmission.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
