Sigh, Can both motherboards be shot???

Hello all,

I'm working on 2 pc's from the same house.

1 pc is brand new built by me.

Antec true 380W psu
Asus A7n8X (not deluxe)
Barton 2500+
512MB corsair XMS 2-2-2-6 ram
9600XT

ETC...

The pc always had a very faint post but right now i am not sure if it posts.
The hard drives spin up, all the fans turn on, Dvd-drive spins up but there is no video whatso-ever. Normally one would think that if there was a video problem there would be a "no-video" post-code, right?

Also when i put a working video card in this pc there was no video still 🙁

Secondly,

The other PC does not recognize any drives plugged into its ATA-ports. IS there any reasonable way to fix it or must that mobo be trashed as well? (i've tried leaving a dvd drive in the another PC and just putting the ata-cable to the mobo and still no go. The odd thing about this incident is that the motherboard posts and one can enter bios. But it still appears as if the motherboard is shot, right?

Thanks all!

have you tried a different power supply? maybe its starting to die. thats what mine did when it went(fans, drives all spinning, but thats it).

The drives not being detected could be many reasons, cabled wrong, jumper set to disabled, power not plugged in, jumper on drive not set correctly,etc.......

The other one, same thing, many reasons. My first few guesses (new build) take it out of the case, put in only the CPU/HSF, memory (snug fit) and video card. Make sure its on cardboard or something totally non-conductive. Re-set the CMOS. then boot. Take it from there.

for the second one,

The jumpers are properly set, power is plugged in, other power supply plugged in, jumpers on drive set properly, cable is proper.

As i said, i left a dvd drive in another pc w/ that pc's power supply...Connected the Secondary master cable to the secondary master slot on the non-functional pc and still no go 🙁

I guess i will have to do some work to get another power supply to the first pc.

Keep the ideas coming!

For the first machine I would do what Markfw900 suggested, take it out of the case, and try it with the cpu and hs/f, one stick of memory, and the video card. If still no post try with no video, and see if it beeps at you, and try the same with no memory. You could also hook the power supply up to the other PC to test weather it's working or not..otherwise it's likely the motherboard.

On the second machine are the drives being seen in BIOS? Did you double check to make sure the IDE ports are enabled? Normaly they are by default, but just something you could look at. You could always get a cheap PCI IDE controler card for an inexpensive fix if it is the motherboard.

Well i swapped out the psu for another working antec 350W psu and the main PC still does not post, still no video , still nothing.

Funny thing is that this mobo was an asus, the pc w/ the 1.2 ghz was an asus, and b4 that it had another asus mobo that went bad....Asus mobo's dont seem to like me or their users in my case at least!!

Going the Abit NF7-S route which i've built a few systems on and have found them to be excellent boards.

FOr the old pc a replacement ECS mobo is en route from the FS/FT forums.

Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions!
