Sig Hansen Brings His Daughter Mandy Aboard 'Deadliest Catch'
Mandy Hansen, daughter of the Northwestern's captain, Sig Hansen, debuts on Deadliest Catch Tuesday night. The last time Yahoo TV https://tv.yahoo.com/blogs/tv-news/...ard--deadliest-catch-194844145.html#_msocom_2spoke with Sig, he said that he was proud of her but also tried to deter her from the fisherman's life; obviously, his skills of persuasion did not outweigh her desire to be on the open water.
She's been with these guys for a while, every summer during our summer salmon charter. The boat is chartered out as a tender; it's like a big fish taxi, so they transport fish back and forth in Alaska. It's very nice weather, it's in the summertime. So she's used to the crew; she's already bonded with those guys on a different level.
I just told her don't quit and then sent her out there. She did what they told her to do. So it was no different for her than it was for me and my brothers or anybody that gets on a boat. We didn't want to give her too much special treatment; we wanted her to really know what it is to be a deckhand during a crab fishery. I think she figured it out pretty quick.
