Most Panasonics are NOT 2.4, they are mixtures of 900 and 2.4, so why bother paying extra for a fraudulant 2.4? VTech has a few 900's that are cheap and good. Take the 9060i with a great answering machine. I really like it, but then I like my Siemens 2415. It's supposed to be able to have up to 4 handsets. After reading the above comments, I'll be really careful as I add more handsets, and if the quality goes down, I'll send back the extra and just be satisfied with a great phone and answering maching that has tons of great features and sound for the $70 it cost after the rebates for a phone tha sells for $169.

funkpuppy, did you try turning up the volume? You need to read the manual to do it, it's a bit complicated because of all the features. When I got mine, I couldn't hear very well either, but I just turned it up. Did you drop the Panasonic to see if it breaks? If not, then the fact that the Siemens breaks like most things when they are dropped is irrelevent. Just don't drop it.

I tried everything to get the phones to sound good, nothing worked. It sounds like you have a tube to your ear when you listen to them. Not to mention their fragility. My Panasonics are armored and have survived many a fall (and dog bites).

My Panasonics are the 2.4GHz/900MHz mix. I can walk down to the pool and still be able to talk (about 200m away). The sound quality never changes. It is always perfect.

Are you sure the Siemens are pure 2.4GHz? If so, I would still rather have the mix frequencies that still reach far then the tube fuzz sound you get with the Siemens.

funkpuppy, I really think you just had a defective unit. Do you really think that anyone could stay in business if they sold the product you are talking about? Mine works fine, and I've heard that Pansonic is good. One of the reasons I want 2.4 is so that my convesations can't be intercepted by the neighbors.

If I had a phone that was as bad as you describe the Siemens to be, I would return it. They are NOT cheap.

What model Panasonic is it that can work so well and take so much abuse?

I have the KX-TG2550B from Panasonic. As for interception, all phones can be intercepted with simple equipment you can buy at Radio Shack. It doesn't matter if it is 900MHz or 2.4GHz. The trick is that both are digital spread spectrum so it is close to impossible to decipher what is coming out. Actually the dual phones are more secure since 900MHz is transmitted from the phone and 2.4GHz is transmitted from the base. You would need two simultaneous receivers to eavesdrop and then try to decipher the digital mess they are transmitting.

As for the Siemens, I guess it is just personal preference, but all three or four of her handsets are lousy sounding. I doubt it is the base unit either, they got a new one when they dropped the phone on the ground and it shattered. They took it back and got a new replacement. Same sound...

I must give the Siemens that they do look much cooler than my Panasonic though. Who needs antennas?
