Much like the death of Betty White, the death of Sidney Poitier really saddens me.

"Lilies of the Field", "In the Heat of the Night", To Sir, with Love", The Defiant ones."

He opened the door for black men to play leading movie roles and seemed to always choose roles that elevated rather than denigrated.

RIP

We have lost another great one. The rate seems to be accelerating. RIP Mr. Poitier. You were a class act and a great actor. I am glad we can see you employ your craft even though you have passed.

In addition to being a fantastic actor, he had some other filmmaking skills too.

He directed several titles, my favorite among them was "Stir Crazy" with Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder!

Huge respect for him as a person, an actor, a director! Is is one of the all time greats and I think will be remembered as such.
