Sidewinder Gamepad does not work with XP

It worked fine with '98, but not with XP. I have it plugged into the gameport on my Diamond s100 sound card. Windows detects a gameport and I've tried the Sidewinder profile as well as the generic gamepad profile, but it still says "DEVICE NOT CONNECTED." Anyone have any suggestions before I retreat to '98? Thanks.

Doesnt your Sidewinder gamepad has an USB connection? I use my MS Sidewinder Pro gamepad w/ USB on XP without problems before...

I had the same problem. I had to get the USB version after I upgraded to WinXP. None of my friends could get it to work either. They also purchased the USB version of the sidewinder gamepad. Plus, Microsoft does not even sell the original one anymore. They only sell ones with USB connectors. I would go get the USB version.
