I've discovered that version 3.02 of the Sidewinder software is not compatible with Windows 2000. I found an article in the microsoft knowledge base (click here) that makes mention of a version 4.0 of the Sidewinder software that works (though not guaranteed) with Windows 2000. Does anyone know where I can find this? I tried searching microsoft's downloads and was unable to locate it.

Are you saying that you can't install the controller or do you just want to use the key binding in the software?

To install, you just have to go to game controllers in the control panel and select Microsoft Sidewinder(Auto-detect).
For key binding, I can't help you:p

yeah, i need it more for key binding, but also because there's an update available for the freestyle pro that fixes problems with the d-pad...i was hoping to use that as well.

Ms Swidewinder software version 4.0 works in Win2k just fine. It is shipping with the swidewinder percision two , sidewinder strategic commander, and sidewinder game pad pro. Version 4.0 doesnt support the key micros for the older sidewinder models like the free style pro or game pad or precision pro so 4.0 would be useless for you.Sorry I know how you feel, I bought the precision pro 2 for 50$ just to get the version 4.0 software hoping it would support my older precision pro and frestyle pro and it didnt.

how about this, know of any programs out there that allow programming joystick buttons to keyboard key strokes? Especially one that will work with Windows 2000...

I don't care about programming buttons all that much, but I'm having a hell of a time getting 2 controllers to work correctly under Windows2k. I don't know if it's an SBlive problem or Sidewinder problem.

WHen I add them in the control panel it gives me an error that it can't install, but it installs both controllers anyway. THe first controller works fine, but the second controller has sporadic jerks up and down or left and right during a game. It's hard to notice, but if you're on a menu screen the cursor goes nuts. I'm going to kill this thing
