I've tried growing them in before, but it didn't work so well.

I had a decent amount of beard hair, but the top of the sideburns didn't connect to the bottom of my hairline, so I had a little islands next to my ears.

I used to have sideburns a few years ago, but I got rid of them when the barber took it upon himself to shave them during a routine haircut:). I wasn't angry because I was going to get rid of them anyway.

No sideburns here, unless I've been lazy & haven't shaved in a few days...

I've had 'em since I was 15 :D

The current sideburns trend has been around since 1995. Before then, it was distinctly uncool to be seen with sideburns, and would elicit a lot of "That guy thinks he's Elvis" comments. I wouldn't say the 70's are back. 70's style sideburns were really thick, and were wide at the base. The kind that's popular with most guys under 30 these days is the thinner, more rectangular type. And most Hollywood celebrities have 'em too.

BTW, not having sideburns is lame, IMO. Makes you look like a kid :Q

I was the first person I knew who had to shave. I started in the summer between grade 7 and 8. By the end of grade 9 I had great a great set of chops :D

I shaved it off in the middle of grade 11. Just now (after graduation) I've decided to grow them back in. I just decided to do this like 2 hours ago :)

Actually, now that I think about it, sideburns have almost always been "in". You could look at paintings from the 1700's or photographs from the 1930's, and you'd see lots of guys with sideburns. They just weren't in during the 1980's and early 1990's because the trend had gotten way out of control during the 1970's, and at the start of every decade, nobody wants to be caught dead with the trends of the previous decade. (eg. British Pop bands became uncool in the 1970's, the Disco Sucks movement started in the early 1980's, in the early 1990's nobody wanted to wear ripped jeans, etc.)

Sideburns = Natural

No Sideburns = Old Man trying to look like a boy

Cheers :D

I've had em since I was like 15 or 16 (22 now). I don't let em grow out longer than about halfway down my ear. And they stay trimmed because I get my hair cut every 2 weeks.

I'm going for muttonchops myself...really...unfortunately I don't have much beard growth, and that part of the sideburns grows more as beard than head-hair, so the 'chops aren't as bushy as I'd like.

Think Isaac Asimov, that's what I want. :)

Never had 'em. I cut them mostly off, just leaving an inch or so, straight across from the ear looks dumb. I prefer the 5o'clock shadow look.

I have 'em. They grow to a point where they meet at the center of my chin. They also extend over my upper lip and... wait a minute... I have a beard!

I had a set of "Stephen Stills" specials when I was a kid (don't ask). I simply DIE of shame when I see pictures of me from that era.

Didn't realize it was a trend, but I have sideburns to scare people away from me ;) . They go down the side and come to a point towards my chin. None of that bushy stuff, always keep em trimmed nicely.

Had them for a while (3 years or so), then shaved em bout 6 months ago. Might grow em back one of these days, who knows.
