The title says it all really. How can I get sidebar transparent and over my windows? When I say this, I want the sidebar to not take a huge chunk out of my windows. Basically, I want my clock and things "floating" over on the left side whenever I open up a window.

Is this possible?

Right-click on the sidebar icon in your systray, click on properties, and select always on top. It should already be transparent unless you don't have Aero on. You could also drag the gadgets off the sidebar and put them wherever you want and close the sidebar.

That doesn't necessarily work the way I think the OP is hoping. I have irc channels floating on my desktop on the right side and when I check "always on top," the transparent area becomes much thicker and the text below is unreadable. The sidebar also pushes the windows out so they're not underneath the sidebar area, messing with my IRC channels' saved placement.

I've resigned myself to not having "always on top" checked and hitting Winkey-space to bring the sidebar back to the front when the clock etc are buried. I've grown accustomed to this and it doesn't bother me.

Here's what I do - drag your gadgets OFF the sidebar onto the desktop. Then close the side bar. Your gadgets can then go where ever you want them with no sidebar attachment.
