Sidebanding and Voodoo5

Hi!

Is it better to enable or to disable sidebanding with V5?
Another question about VIA chipset. I have ASUS P3V4x mobo with P3800EB. Before I had a Celeron in it and my Quantum ATA 66 HDD in all the tests showed an excellent physical data transfer of about 15 MB/sec. Now I upgraded VIA drivers to the latest ones and the HDD performance dropped to about 7 Mb/sec. I even reinstalled Win98SE (reformat), but nothing happened, HDD is slow. What could be the reason for it? And should I eneble the DMA mode when I install the VIA 4 in 1 drivers? I did it. Maybe that was my mistake? Thanks.

If you can enable it then do so but don't expect any significant performance increase (1-2%). What you 'could' expect are stability problems if they happen disable it... 😉

As to the VIA drivers, I don't know. But enabling DMA transfer 'could' solve your problem. Your HDD is running probably right now in PIO mode and that is pretty baaaaaaaaaaaaad... just my guess...
