Side Fan

On my case, I have a side fan with the standard 3 pin connection. It only has two wires...black and red....this wire would not even come close to connecting the the mobo so I bought a extension. This extension has 3 wires but the same 3 pins. Would this connection still work? Im thinking that one of them is just a ground...dont know...
I also have femal molex with a fan connection on....now this one does have just the red black...which would you use?
Thanks,

Its the saem connection so your fine. The third wire, generally yellow, is used to track the rotation speed of the fan and report it to the motherboard. Your fan doesn't have that option and it won't effect anything.
