Dash Text: [ESRB: E10+ (Everyone 10+) ALCOHOL REFERENCE,MILD SUGGESTIVE THEMES,VIOLENCE] Legendary game designer Sid Meier brings one of the greatest strategy games of all time to the Xbox 360 console! Built from the ground up for consoles, Sid Meier?s Civilization Revolution challenges you to lead your chosen nation from the dawn of man to the space age on your quest to rule the world. Go head to head with history?s greatest leaders as you wage war, conduct diplomacy, discover new technologies and build the most powerful empire the world has ever known. The famously addictive gameplay, endless ways to play and Xbox LIVE multiplayer competitions, matchmaking, leaderboards, achievements and downloadable content will keep you coming back for more. This demo includes both single-player and multiplayer gameplay.

I don't think this is supposed to hit PSN until later this afternoon.

I lost many a night to CivII. I'm interested to see how it translates to the consoles.

360Fanboy is saying that the Battlefield: Bad Company demo is up on XBL too....but I'm not seeing it listed at Major Nelson or Gamerscoreblog.

Moderately related:

One night, I started playing a game of Civ II at around 8pm or so. I did the largest map possible - basically a recreation of Earth. I was midway through conquering Asia when I started to hear birds chirping. I literally had lost any comprehension of time and ended up playing until 8am.

I miss summer vacation.

AWESOME. I'd been looking forward to June 3rd for months, then I found out on June 2nd that it was pushed back until July 8th. :( The DS version comes out in Europe tomorrow... I look forward to hearing how that is. If this game is good, it will probably be the first game I buy for both a handheld and a console. :Q Hopefully it translates well to consoles, and hopefully the DS version doesn't require you to use the stylus so I can play it on the exercise bike at work.

Me too. I haven't played Civ IV, but my main complaint about Civ III was that late game turns took so long. I understand they've really shortened the games to make it more console-friendly (and particularly multiplayer-friendly on consoles). One way they did this was by using smaller maps. I've also heard they removed the use of settlers to improve the area around your cities, which seems like a strange and needless change to me.

I played the demo a bit tonight, and I like it. There's a lot to absorb and remember though.

I am a big fan of Civ II and to a lesser extent, SMAC (sid meier's alpha centauri). I disliked civ III as well. But, you should really try CIV IV (I believe they have a fairly inexpensive bundle out there, Beyond The Sword adds a good deal to the game). The only thing that is missing is the unit customization feature from SMAC (the "upgrade" ability in Civ4 is not complex enough). CIV IV, IMO, borders on the goodness of Civ II and surpasses SMAC.

I'd like to check it out, but after Sid Meier's Railroads! ran like crap on my PC, I'm not sure what to expect from Civ IV. I'm not a PC gamer, so I don't have a good video card and haven't upgraded my processor in a few years.

That's odd. Why would they delay the US version and keep the euro version on track. I could've sworn I read somewhere they need to work out some issues.

did you every try Rhye's civ3/conquest pack? It greatly reduced load times, balanced the game out too.

Oh shoot, I got it backwards. Apparently it's the 360 and PS3 versions that will be out in Europe tomorrow (actually now, since it's morning in Europe now)

http://www.civilizationrevolut...tures_date_update.html

Civilization Revolution has a new release date in the U.S. and Canada. All three versions of the game (Xbox 360, PLAYSTATION 3, and Nintendo DS) will ship on July 7th and begin to appear in stores on July 8th. In Europe, the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 versions of Civilization Revolution will still appear in stores on June 6th.

I have no idea why they pushed back the US release date and left the Europe date the same.

Apparently it's 6/27 for the DS in Europe.

I have not tried this Rhye's civ3/conquest pack you speak of.

Edit: Here it is:
http://forums.2kgames.com/foru...ead.php?t=17199&page=3
the heart of the matter is that we decided to give the DS version extra time so that it could be polished and perfect. and different countries and territories deal with how they like to release games differently, and in north america, simultaneous releases are very important, so we're waiting for the DS to be ready.

I just tried the Bad Company demo. I dont know... something about it feels... off. When I drove a vehicle, I couldn't put it in reverse, and the default gas trigger was the left one? That's basically being different for the sake of being different (people in the US drive with their right foot, so it makes sense to use the right trigger).

At the end of the demo, I thought it was going to turn into Kelly's Heroes (movie plot), which isnt bad but I dunno... something just feels weird about this game. I dont think I'll get it.

I don't mean to resurrect a dead thread, but I played the Civ Revolution demo, and I was _extremely_ impressed. It's a streamlined version of IV, but in a good way (no serious loss of depth). I get the impression that money is actually more than a method of getting your stuff built quickly and limiting expansion in this game.

It gives me much hope for a console-ized version of SMAC2.
