Pretty lengthy video about the University of Michigan's 48 hour build a game contest with Sid Meier as a contestant even though he took his entry out of the competition :)

Through the whole documentary of teams building a game in 48 hours Sid pretty much talks about the history of gaming. lol he started his first on a punch card!

I'd love to know how he churned out a 3D shooter in 48 hours, but I guess he's da man.

That was really cool. I enjoy playing and designing the games, but i could never see myself actually coding these things. I once spent a weekend making a short game using GameMaker, wasn't my cup of tea.

Yeah, I'd like to design a game, but programming it? Bleh. The very idea of just starting up Visual C++, staring at a blank screen, and trying to make a game... Man.

sid is the greatest. I recall reading an article long ago that Sid was "found" when he impressed some bigwig by explaining the alogirithms of the planes in "Red Baron". The guy just knows programming AND design - quite rare nowadays.

edit: ooops looks like they mentioned that in the article as well.

Pretty cool video. Kinda disappointed that I didn't get to see Sid's finished game.

Great watch.

Not a fan of Sid's games, but the guy is great. His game looked like an XBLA game in under the 48 hours...crazy. The other guys had good games too, and the Zoo Escape one did look the best to me. Wish we could download+play all of them including Sid's.
