SiCKO: See it today (8/11) if you haven't seen it yet

On 8/11/07 The Weinstein Company will donate 11% of their profits from 'SiCKO' to the 9/11 rescue workers who are not receiving the care that they should get. Remember, if we had universal health care, the 9/11 rescue workers wouldn't be going through this struggle right now.

This has become a P&N thread. Oh well. -Anandtech Moderator DrPizza

Sorry, Dr. Pizza.

Yeah, no one has to reply or comment on this thread - I just wanted people to see this and know about it. No real discussion here. If you want to talk about the movie or anything else related to it - search for a thread that is related.

No need to apologize.

It's always nice to see a corporation helping people out, regardless of whether they do it out of the kindness of their hearts, or for advertising.

I'd rather donate the entire amount of what I would spend on a ticket than sit through a Michael Moore schlockumentary.

In fact, I think I'll go do just that.

How about just donating money to the rescue workers without seeing the movie? Saves three hours and an indoctrination.

Keep your responses limited to OT, not P&N. -Anandtech Moderator DrPizza

You know that's not going to happen, Dr Pizza. Some people have to get their 2 cents in at any opportunity, however inappropriate.

Any way, it's a great film, glad to hear of the charitable cause.

Just give them 100% of your movie ticket and skip the propaganda.

I'll never watch another Moore crapfest again, but I'd definitely entertain that idea. Then again, it would be free for me to watch it, but I'd rather someone pay me before I go see it for free. 😉

Or... watch the movie for yourself, form your own opinions about what is stated, read some of the dozens of in depth critiques about it to substantiate its claims, THEN decide if it's propaganda. But hell, it's so much easier to label it as BS without paying any money then to educate yourself under the suspicion that you MIGHT be funding a propaganda piece. Such a sticky wicket.

And no, this is not a P&N-based post, more of a "reevaluate your ignorant lifestyle" advice piece.

Amen. If you disagree with something, fine. But see it/read it/actually consider it before you disagree with it.

Everyone who disagrees with me politically is an idiot and deserves to be beaten. If it weren't for people who disagreed with me, there would be no suffering in the world.

Bravo.

I'd say that I'd like to see you Yanks give universal healthcare a try but that surefire disaster would only lead to our dollar rising even higher against yours, which I don't want happening. So please, wake up to what a horribly mismanaged affair universal healthcare in the U.S. would be and stop this nonsense already. We who already have it are on the road to adding to a parallel private system - try taking a hint.

Yeah, exactly.

On a somewhat related note, a girl I was talking to at a bar in BC said that she was going into nursing and planned on working in the US for at least a few years so she could much, much more money and pay off her loans faster. That is kind of sad, because she even benefits from the Universal system in Canada because her income is so low.

But yeah...no system is perfect in the world and ours certainly has problems. I'll still take it over a fully government managed universal system though.

Wow, someone's on the rag. All he said was suggest that you see something before bashing it, and you went off into some non-related rant.

Yup. Memory failing you?

Let me just say, as someone who has lived in a country with privatized healthcare, and a country with universal/state healthcare, that privatized is far better quality anyday. Universal healthcare is nice, but in the end it's down to profits for the doctors, who try and push you out the door as quickly as possible to get the next patient in so they can get another payment from the government.
