Sick ritual (Muslim men slashing heads with swords)

Before I get labeled as culturally insensitive, let me just say,

THAT IS TWISTED, SICK, AND WRONG!

Ok, now you can label me as culturally insensitive.
 
Don't certain groups of Catholics have something like this too, where they hurt themselves for a religious purpose? (Don't know the English word for it, just the Dutch)
 
I mean I understand (kind of) if adults willingly do it to themselves but forcing children to participate is just wrong.

What does this have to do with forcing children?
 
Why do people smoke or use drugs? It does much more damage to the body.
Why do people drink and drive? It can be fatal.

it's also very generalizing to say muslim as well, it looks like it's a shi'ite muslim tradition:

I'm not really generalizing... Im not saying all muslims do this. If I said men slashing heads would it mean I'm generalizing that all men slash their heads? I don't think so.
 
Im a muslim and Ive never seen this happening. I think that this is more like a localized ritual in shiite groups.
 
Freakin' animals, those people. This is the same culture that straps C5 to the bodies of children and sends them running into a McDonalds to press the button. Allah my ass.
 
Its not uncommon to have certain sects in religions to do such things.
I know that in some hindu traditions, some men go and pierce their bodies with long wires attached to a bow and they walk around looking like a harp.

This however is news to me what some shiites do.
