I'm getting so fed up with the bs copy protection schemes that they come up with to break my dvd player. The only way I can even watch the stuff I rent is to watch it on my pc.

Rip and burn.

This way you eliminate the previews and other crap. I like my flix like getting petrol. Pump and go. Screw menus, and other stuff. Drop the disk and watch. Why can't life be simple any more?

What do you use for doing that? I've tried a couple of different pieces of software. One worked pretty well but had some issues with certain discs. The other seemed to degrade the quality pretty bad.

Menus are one of the best parts of having a DVD. Just re-encode at a lower bitrate if you have a small TV, its barely noticable.

Medicinebear, DVD shrink and Decrypter are easy to use programs that should work well for you.

I normally use dvdshrink to get rid of the copy protection crap so I can watch dvd's without them stuttering all over the place

But get Decrypter before it disappears.

ummm, it's a freakin menu...100% worthless, and you might as well watch it at full quality, read a book if you don't appreciate the filming

DVD Shrink > *.

I HATE the menus. Useless to me. I just like to put the disk in and watch the damn movie.

I've got a Sony dvd player, and had zero problems playing dvd's, even ones I've made myself (from my film clips, naturally!! ).

Cheaper dvd players can have issues with some dvd's, especially copied or burned dvd's. If you use your player a lot, make sure your laser lens is clean. That can cause some pretty bad stuttering when playing questionable dvd's. :)

He probably has a region free player, and there are tons of dvds that try to confuse region free players. Isn't robin hood men in tights only available as region 2?

i love it when copy protection encourages people to pirate their own discs.

"hey, while i'm at it, might as well go to blockbuster...."

ahmen to that. If there is other content on the disc that I want, I just add it as a second, third, ect track, and skip ahead to watch it

forced menues, previews, and advertisements are teh suckage

Image from my Spiderbait-CD. Now that teached me a lesson... to never buy from this label again. Are nagscreens like this one common on American CD's?

Actually I've been using my ps2 for a while now. I do use dvdshrink and it makes it work fine, but I hate wasting disks on rentals like that. Yeah I could go out and buy a cheap new player, but why should I have to? That's just corrupt forcing people to buy a new player every few years when they come out with a new protection scheme.

I've found that my cheap dvd player from walmart works better than the one I spent $100 for made by Samsung.
