This is just sick... What consenting adults do behind closed doors may well be their business... But you don't involve 14 year old girls in this stuff...

Report from Ashleigh Banfield on MSNBC just now said that she talked to her sources in the FBI and police and they have confirmed this from two sources.

Ick, that's just disgusting...

Poor girl, that must have been horrible... :| :| :|

Not to be the spelling nazi, but the word you want is "polygamous". ;)

And yes....that's f*cked up and those responsible should be soundly beaten.

I used to be but the mainstream mormons don't do it any more. There are those fringe groups that still do it though.

Cheers,

It hasn't been preached or condoned by the LDS church for hundreds of years.

No, they were kicked out of the church for being crazy...

The Mormans do not support this sort of thing.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (the Mormons) generally will excommunicate any member who tries to engage in polygamy. It's been a century and a half and people still haven't forgotten. There are some people, though, who live in the wilds of Utah and practice polygamy, and still claim that as far as they're concerned, they are still Mormons, but the church as a whole disavows them.

My best friend was a mormon when I grew up.......

according to him.....The reason for advocating polygamy used to be that the mormons were severely persecuted, and they were fearful for their very existance---so it was decided that every man should attempt to father as many children as he could......

I don't remember his reasoning now for why some sects of mormons still practice it though.

Calpha

And by the way---if that's true.....I hope he gets to go to prison for life and get to be somebody's little b!tch. One of the things that turns my stomach more then anything else is ppl taking advantage, or molesting children. I wish we'd adopt a policy where all molesters etc...shoudl be castrated or something like that........

I only hope and pray that Elizabeth is a strong person and can recover and have a normal life and not live in the shadow/fear of her 9 month abduction.......

Many don't live in the wilds. Many people I went to high school with came from Polygamous families.

For those of you wanting the official explanation, here's a link:

Linky

Question:
What is the Church?s position on polygamy?

Answer:
In 1998, President Gordon B. Hinckley made the following statement about the Church's position on plural marriage:
"This Church has nothing whatever to do with those practicing polygamy. They are not members of this Church. . . . If any of our members are found to be practicing plural marriage, they are excommunicated, the most serious penalty the Church can impose. Not only are those so involved in direct violation of the civil law, they are in violation of the law of this Church."

At various times, the Lord has commanded His people to practice plural marriage. For example, He gave this command to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, and Solomon (Doctrine and Covenants 132:1).

In this dispensation, the Lord commanded some of the early Saints to practice plural marriage. The Prophet Joseph Smith and those closest to him, including Brigham Young and Heber C. Kimball, were challenged by this command, but they obeyed it. Church leaders regulated the practice. Those entering into it had to be authorized to do so, and the marriages had to be performed through the sealing power of the priesthood. In 1890, President Wilford Woodruff received a revelation that the leaders of the Church should cease teaching the practice of plural marriage (Official Declaration 1).

If that's true, that guy should be lock up for life. throw aways the key and let him ROT!

He's probably using religion as an excuse to satisfy his pedophile urges. There was a couple lines in a CNN report about him making passes at his stepdaughter.

I've got a can of Lysol and a Zippo. Can I join the party? :D

Don't worry ... these guys will be "forced" into a "polygamous relationship" with Bubba, Tyrone, Lance and Troy in prison.

I can only imagine she was held for a month or two in a mountain cabin, brainwashed, and then taken around the country.

Her fighting spirit was beaten down and felt she couldn't escape anymore.

DON'T BLAME THE VICTIM!!!! She's a little 14 year old scared girl, these are two very sick adults who should be throw into pound-me-in-the-ass-prison and abused by more decent and upstanding criminals.

Is your last name Smith or Young? If it is there's a good chances there is a Polygamous in the family tree somewhere, especially if your descendants hailed from Utah

I'm looking at it from a woman's perspective...

I'm sure Geekbabe would have something witty to say in response to it anyway... (she's good at smacking people like this down)
