I'm just sick of hearing about these whiny little bastards who decidely HATE whatever *nix they tried because it doesn't work like XP (or whatever).... Why cant people just read and learn and suck it up? thats what I did.... I mean they make the choice to use a OS that is different but they want it to work the same or NOT HAVE ANY LEARNING CURVE? WTF??

I'm going to start recommending to all these idiots that they should go plunk down $$$ or whatever for windows...

Anyway, just venting a bit...

Yeah, it's wierd that anyone would find *nix hard when they have such helpful and understanding people as yourself to answer questions.

 
I do understand what you are saying. There are far too many people who are 'switching' to *Nix for all the wrong reasons. They ask questions that are clearly documented in obvious places. I was one of thos whiny little bastards a year ago, and I run FreeBSD almost exclusively. However, a holier than thou attitude is one of the 'down falls' of the *Nix community, and often inhibits people from wanting to learn.
 
I understand when they say the documentation is a little tough to grasp. Ive been working with this stuff for a little while now and I have some trouble with some of the documentation. Thats why I wrote a couple of the FAQs in our linux FAQ thread. We're trying to make these as easy as possible. If you can think of a FAQ, please write one up or request it. And make it as idiot proof as you can!
 
You are definitely contributing to the widely held notion that the NIX Community is made up of intolerant fundamentalist.
 
I agree with TheOmegaCode.

Not everyone who wants to dabble in *nix is a computer expert. *nix is difficult for those who are used to Windows OSes. Instead of complaining that they annoy you, offer them some usefull help like recommending a book for them to learn from.

When I was just starting in computers, Unix was some strange mysterious thing. Heck, CPM was big then too and I knew little about it. The only OS I knew then was BASIC. I started dabbling in 8-bit machine code and that was a steep learning curve for me at the time, because the rules for assembly weren't the same as BASIC.

So just try patience.
