Hey guys,

My 16GB LAB PC is just not cutting it anymore and I wanted something that can run many more VMs.

I wanted a ITX form factor build with i7 and 64GB RAM capacity.

I found the Shuttle XPC SZ170R8V2, link below
https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ...7.1740864357.1499909346-1095532034.1496392504

My Build will be i7-7700 (not K because I don't overclock) with 64 DDR4 RAM( likely Corsair 4x16) with 1TB SSD.

Does anyone have any experience with this Shuttle XPC unit?
From a size perspective it is pretty good because it ticks all my boxes including Dual LAN and 64GB with dual M.2 slots.

Wondering if there is anything better in this size? All the ITX / Mini-ITX boards I have found are all only 32GB. Intel NUC systems seem to have subpar reliability based on reviews.

The 7700 non-K is a good idea since it's fast but only 65 watts TDP to cool instead of 91.

You didn't find any mini-ITX with 4 RAM slots? Note that you don't need Z270/170 for stock speed, any other Kaby chipset is fine - https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Z270-H270-Q270-Q250-B250---What-is-the-Difference-876/

One bad thing about Shuttle can be repairing them since you can't always drop in a non-shuttle replacement motherboard. The other point against them is they aren't always as quiet as a custom system that's possibly in a slightly larger case.

This is personal preference, but I'd rather have a larger case that can run near-silently than a tiny one with louder fans.

Thanks for the suggestions gents. Decided that it was too risky to buy the Shuttle.

TLDR: Decided to upgrade to 32GB RAM instead.

I do like the idea of a supermicro build for future. I will probably go that route later.
