Had recently been informed by a member on another forum that the X100 are now available and configuration from the Shuttle website. Was curious if anybody has purchased one yet and what they think of it. I'm particularly interested in the onboard MXM graphics, and if there's room for a Type III MXM card. If so, it should be possible to install a Go 7900 or mobile X1800, at least assuming the stock cooling can handle the extra heat.

If no one replies here you might check sudhian.com forums.

I'm tempted to order one, but with Core 2 out this month I'm waiting to see if Dell will offer anything decent and cheaper in small to medium form factor.

Has anyone else noticed it looks like a Space-NES?

Don't get me wrong, I think it's cool. But it does look suspiciously familiar.

I mean, open this up next to this.

My first thought upon seeing this was:

Shuttle Wii!

Seriously cool looking system (the X100) - a little too expensive though.

Yeah, the stripe down the side is very NES-esque. :)

Nice to see some other people are interested. If anybody gets one pop it open so we can see it's guts -- I'm very interested to see how everything is fit in there and what kind of upgrading is possible. I could've swore I remembered reading somewhere that Shuttle was going to offer gaming version w/mobile X1800, high-end Yonah or Merom, etc., but maybe they decided not to?

I do not know. It would appear to be an old-style socket 479 processor, so an update in the motherboard design would be necessary.

It's available with a Core Duo, which uses the same revision of Socket 479 as the first gen of Merom Core 2 chips will. Whether the BIOS would support Core 2 is another issue entirely.

Dave

I don't know if it's so silly. I'd call my CPU "Inspector Ding-A-Ling" if it meant I could get a CPU that could overclock to crazy levels with two cores for under 200$.

That said, Athlon just sounds cool.

Very funny! I too lust after one of the lower priced units. I gues I just could not help but think that if they came out with a "version 2" of this chip that it might be called Core Duo 2 Duece :)

Where are the main boards for this chip???
