Shuttle (st20g5) and heat

Hello.

My Shuttle st20g5 houses an Athlon 64 3200+ Venice, running at stock speed. Thermal paste is Akasa AK450, thin(bordering on translucent), relatively even layer.

My problem is that it runs at around 55C idle (bios reporting after half an hour turned on), with the ICE fan going at 1600RPMs (for quietness) and no Cool and Quiet enabled (there is no cool and quiet for XP, is there? Only the Athlon64 processor driver, which is an equivalent?). Wouldn't normally be worried, but too many Shuttle owners report their Athlon64s and opterons to run at 25C idle (though not if they use the equivalent of C&Q and what their ICE fan speed is)

Ambient room temp is less than 20C. I have a discrete graphics card installed, and have placed a larger heatsink on the northbridge and removed the annoying little fan to cool it passively, but these two things have only resulted in a 2-3degree C raise in CPU idle temperature.

Hilfe hilfe bitte, freundliche Mennschen.

What BIOS version are you running?

In my experience, (see my sig) the CPU tends to run pretty warm in the ST20G5. I've had absolutely no problems with it running warmer than normal other than I can't OC. I don't think their cooling solution's that good.
