Shuttle SS51G (refurbished) from Newegg for $219

Shuttle SS51G (refurbished) from Newegg for $219. Free shipping included. The cheapest I've seen em anywhere is 279 before shipping.

What's the difference between the SS51G and the SK41G or SB51G? They all look like they're pretty much the same to me.

Also, I've never dealt with a Newegg refurb. What are the odds I'd get a dud with something like this?

SS51G uses the SiS 651 chipset, SB51G uses that i845GE chipset, and the SK41G uses the KM266 chipset (AMD, not Intel, as Newegg says).

THe difference between the models is the chipset. I really like the heatpipe cooling solution and the AGP but I hate the case colors! Impossible to match!

Can I ask the next stupid question? What's the difference between the SiS 651 and the i845GE? Is the only difference the fact that one is made by Intel?

That's a very big discount of 70 dollars. Anyone here have experience with Newegg refurbs?

I would not buy a refurb Shuttle from them again.

I bought a refurb SV24 from them a couple months back and it was missing everything except the motherboard/case.
It didnt' have the PCI cover for the back, the hard drive mounting tray, the low profile heatsink, the short IDE cables, the bay covers, etc...

The SS51 uses a special heatpipe cooler. I imagine the refurb would probably be missing that, the drive mounting cage, cables, bay covers, maybe even the plexi front piece.

I would never buy a case or something that has alot of parts as a refurb from NewEgg.

I've bought a few motherboards and video cards that were refurbs from them and they were perfectly fine.

The i845GE has support for Hyperthreading as well as some other features (I think 8x AGP, but don't quote me on that.)

sweet, got mine tonight, looks brand new, everything there.
awesome deal (still haven't checked to make sure it works tho...waiting on processor)

There back up tonight - 2 left. . .

Got mine today from earlier this week. Everything was included - nothing missing - yeah!

Currently have 512mb Crucial 2100 mem, Radeon 7500, 2 hd, 1 Pioneer DVD R/RW and everything is running fine. Ran a couple benchmarks, etc. and will do more aggressive testing within my 15 days.

Hope this helps

🙁
Arn, darn.

Stung by the AT effect. Had the last one in my basket on my PC. Went into the other room to make purchase on my Mac instead of the PC. Fired up the Mac and got to the page. Took it out of my basket on the PC, and ran into the other room to put in the basket on the Mac (because that's where I prefer to make all purchases) and it fell into someone else's basket.

Snoozed and loozed again.

There will be other chances, but I won't try to impress the wife with a new toy for the kids until after I have it in the house.

😀

working on mine now...my 1.6a chuggin at 2.1 as it was in my other system.

had the hardest time getting it on the net though, I could not get it to pull an ip address from my router, had to directly connect it to cable modem to get anything at all. gonna have to fix that...

not too bad...have
1.6a oc to 2.1ghz
512mb 2700 samsung running at 333mhz.
gf4 ti4600

getting 11619 in 3dmark2001se 1024x768x32

in sisoft sandra...
cpu benchmark. 5652 MIPS, 1197/2783 MFLOPS
memory benchmark, 2499 int, 2500 float

pretty sweet.

You are right about hyperthreading but 8x AGP is not supported.

The DVI/video card isn't standard. So it looks like you got the complete deal.

May have to pick another one up if they do refurbs again, my current SS51g runs so nicely - just need to get a different colored faceplate.

George

It isn't? The way it reads in the manural it sounds like it comes with it.

Anyways, more testing...just ran sandra burnin wizard overnight (121 runs) temps ended at:

board 40C
psu 40C
CPU 57C

little guy is cooking all right. 2 minutes later CPU is down to 49C

Hey,

Can you guys comment on how loud (or quiet) the system is?

How do you think an AMD (thoroughbred based) system would fare in such a tight, low air flow, environment.

I think an nforce2 based solution would be perfect for a SFF system 😀
