Hello everyone,
I've had a Shuttle SN25P for a few years now... got it back in the summer of 2005. I've had absolutely no problems with the PC until now.
One day while on the computer, it just turned off spontaneously. I figured this wasn't too big a deal -- it's happened before, and I would just turn it back on and it would work normally. So I tried to power it back on. It did boot up normally, but then turned off again within five minutes. This cycle happened repeatedly, until the computer just stopped turning on at all.
Let me say at this point that I don't know too much about computers. I got this one already assembled. My first guess was that the computer was overheating. I never had an overheating problem in the 2.5 years I had the computer so I was wondering why this was happening now. I opened up the case and sprayed some compressed air in there. Dust flew. I made sure the fans could turn normally -- they could. I still can't power on the machine.
Is my next move to get a new power supply? When I unplug the power supply and plug it back in, I hear a few clicking sounds... not sure if that's normal for a power supply unit to do, or if the noises are a sign of some internal struggle within the PSU. If I do need a new power supply, I'm not even really sure which one to get.
Any suggestions? Thanks a lot for any help you guys can send my way.
EDIT 1: I actually think this probably is an overheating problem because the computer does turn on if I leave it alone for 10 minutes... then it will spontaneously shut off soon thereafter. I'm not really sure what to do since all the fans look OK. What could have suddenly changed to make the computer keep overheating?
EDIT 2: OK, I think the problem is with the overheating. After letting the computer rest for a half hour, I powered it up, and was able to download Speedfan. The program had many temperature readings, but two were rising and had a burning icon -- I don't remember them exactly, but one was something like Local and the other Remote. The "Remote" reading was pushing 51C. I tried to set all fans to max. I did notice one particular fan become louder but not the others. The computer then crashed. I'll have to quickly take a screenshot next time. Do I risk doing some permanent damage to my machine by doing this, btw?
Thanks.
