I built a SN95G5V2 six months ago with no problems. I built my new SN25PV2 today and I've run into two major issues [and I have been using the great SN25P guide from this site]. I've spent 5 frustrating hours on this already trying to fix it so any tips/help would be greatly appreciated:
1) I can't get the Windows 2000 CD-ROM to load to format/install on my SATA 74GB Raptor Drive. I get the XPC slashscreen and it says loading CD-ROM, but then I get an error message saying "Error Loading OS". I used the same disc recently and on my SN95G5 and it work perfectly. I have the BIOS set to load CD-ROM first then HD. I have a second SATA drive meant for data connected as well and both drives and CD-ROM are recognized properly in the BIOS. Everything else looks fine at this point though. I don't understand why it won't run the disc - any ideas? But that is the least of my problems...
2) After rebooting, clearing CMOS, etc. a few times and not being able to install Windows I encountered and even bigger issue. The round front power button isn't working even though the system was running fine for 10 minutes beforehand. After pushing it a few times I discover that it's not flush anymore and it is improperly angled to the left side and sort of stuck. I tried pushing it 50 different ways, realigning it with a plastic toothpick but it gets stuck and when it's not stuck it doesn't work. If I hit the button at a certain angle the system gets a surge of power for a second or two - the two fans aboe PSU rotate a little, the keyboard and GPU light up and then stop a second later. I tried switching cables and outlets to no avail and am using my old SFF now no problem. The new SN25P just won't power on now. Anyone have a similar build/connection defect with their SN25P? Is there a way to take of the front plate to make sure the button is hitting the magic power switch properly?
3) I have a XFX 7800GT installed and I thought I would have to connect the 4 pin power connector to it like I had on my old AGP Radeon 9800SE AGP card, but I don't see that connection nor is anything mentioned in the installation instructions. I thought PCI-E cards needed external power or are they simply powered by the PCI-E slot? At first I thought this had something to do with the two issues above, but if it did I thought I would get an error message when the BIOS loaded stating that that plug is necessary to power the GPU as I got when I made that same mistake with my SN95G5 when I first installed that card. Flaky
4) If #2 above is a physical defect and I can't power on the system I think have no choice but to return it. Any idea if Newegg would send me a replacement [bought it like 2 weeks ago] if I claim it has a hardware defect? Or will have to RMA the SFF to Shuttle? I've read that can be a long drawn out nightmare. I'd prefer to get a new one from Newegg and should considering this really isn't a warranty issue per se. Any tips on how to go about that? Any one have a similar experience? I hate to have to rip everything out, especially my X2 3800 so I'll do anything I can to try to fix it.
