Looking to build a SFF computer. Shuttle seems to have the smallest by far.

Can the stock 250-watt in the Shuttle SD30G2 power an e4500 at 3Ghz (stock voltage/1066fsb mod) and an HD 3850 512MB card? Not worried about cooling, the side panels are removable and the proprietary heat pipe looks very capable.

I have heard of people using 8800 video cards, but I just can't see the 250-watt proprietary
power supply surviving such a load in spite of what Shuttle claims.

Is the pci-e slot just for marketing or can it actually be used?

Whatever Shuttle claims the PSU can handle, you can be pretty sure that it can handle it, and more.

Check out the comments regarding Shuttle PSUs at Sudhian/SFFTech. It is probably the best place on the internet for Shuttle information.

MotionMan (Sudhian/SFFTech mod ;) )

I am not sure what you mean?

What model Shuttle are you talking about?

The 250W PSU has been tested by Anandtech to run a Q6600 OC'd to 3.06Ghz and a 8800GT. You can read of it HERE. It's actually the Shuttle SG33G5 but I'd think the PSU is the same 250W unit or at least of the same quality.

Wow running the PSU at 100% capacity, doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

You can get a larger replacement power supply, right?

I have an old AMD socket A Shuttle with a 200 watt PSU and it couldn't handle a 5200 AGP card.

Because if installing a pci-e video card stresses the power supply to the point of premature failure, what's the point?

Well that's beside the point :D It CAN run it :p And mostly systems aren't running loaded up 24/7. Have to wonder what kind of a noise that thing makes though under load :D
