Shuttle Power Supplies Blowing Up ???

One review website commented about 2 of 3 supplies blowing up,
on their SFF systems.

I knew I'd blow up if it blow up.

I ended up getting the ASUS P4C800E, which doesn't entirely
solve the problem, because I still want another Shuttle SFF.

Assuming I don't load the thing up, maybe use a P4 3.0 GHz,
not getting the fastest video card -- how much can these
power supplies take ?

If we were putting together a "regular" system we'd have a
400+ watt power supply. I would think with a 225 watt,
it's a good idea to think about power supply loading up
front.

Shuttle wasn't entirely helpful. Basically saying, stick in
your fastest CPU and fastest graphics card, it'll take it.

Anyway I would just like to get a better feel for how
much the Shuttle SFF machines will take.

Thanks.

Roger

i'd be curious to see which power supply this happened with, and what kind of load they were putting on it. they've had a few over the years. never heard of them blowing up before tho.

my first one blew after about 5 minutes, it smelled burned was too hot to touch and emitted a whine when plugged in but turned off..
it was a sn45g..
rma'd and typing on my new one, hasn't blown yet **knock on wood, cross fingers**

same setup as before, 9500np, DVD-R, 1HD, I left the sound card out at first, but I think I'll be putting my audigy2 in there.. and I'd like to bump up my fsb so my barton 2500 will fly.. but i'm scared the psu will blow

I haven't heard about them dying very much, and definitely not blowing up. I've owned a number of them and can vouch for four of them that have run fully loaded 24/7 w/o a problem on the stock power supply. Currently I am running an SB61G2 w/ 2.4C@3.0, Radeon 9800 (flashed to Pro), 1GB PC3500, 80GB HDD, DVD/CDRW Combo drive. Ran on stock power supply for a few months which I replaced w/ the 250W upgrade.

If you're worried about it, pick up the 250W PSU.
