Shuttle MN31N Problem with fsb

I just attempted to build a Shuttle MN31N system.

It has:

Kingston PC2700 Ram
30gig maxtor HD
Using on-board video
Barton 2500+ (retail)

It will not run stable above 100mhz fsb. It incorrectly posted the very first bootup at 1100mhz (100x11). I have seen many posts about this board or other Shuttle boards doing this. What is the fix or is there one? I am kinda dissapointed.

I"d be interested too, I built a similar system. Athlon XP 1800+ and Kingston PC2700 RAM 2x256 with a maxtor 45GB HDD.

Been rebooting occasionally, I switch RAM slots and it seemed to help. Was going to update drivers tonight. Just built it on saturday. Be nice to know if there is something common going on 😕

The initial boot at 100fsb is normal and just going into the bios and confirming the CPU's setting are correct then saving and exiting was all that was necessary to get things running smooth on the 2 I built. In fact, I used 1700+'s for both and just changed the fsb to 166mhz with the 2700DDR in dc-ddr to 100% for a nice performance boost. BTW, mine were both version 1.1 boards

As far as the problem with not going above 100fsb, I would try 1 stick of ram in slot1 only then slot 2 only if needed to eliminate any issues related to multiple sticks. Also I would make sure the memory timings aren't too aggressive, set the memory to 100%,CPU interface=optimal and that the NB cooler is getting good heat transfer, that the 12v connector is seated fully, and finally flash the bios if all else fails.

I fixed it by putting the P4 connector into the mobo. I guess I missed that part in the manual. Really strange to put 2 power plug-ins into the mobo.

What's so strange about it? It's been a feature on the P4 for some time now...

Seems like I got my problem fixed, it didn't like the RAM I had, I put in a stick of HyperX from my other system and it runs like a champ so far 😀 Got some Corsair low latency on the way.

Glad to see you got yours running Fluxcap 🙂
